  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Number of Questions: 150 multiple-choice questions, including hotspot questions
  • Passing Score: 555 or above on a 300–700 scale

The FE examination assesses knowledge in the following domains:

  • 1. Assess Anatomy (18%): Evaluation of fetal cardiac anatomy and physiology.
  • 2. Evaluate Pathology and Pathophysiology (21%): Assessment of abnormal perfusion and function, and evaluation of congenital anomalies.
  • 3. Integrate Data (31%): Assessment of fetal diagnostic images.
  • 4. Perform the Exam (30%): Gathering medical history and performing ultrasound exams.

Prerequisites

To be eligible for the FE examination, candidates must:

  • 1. Pass the Sonography Principles & Instrumentation (SPI) examination.
  • 2. Meet the ARDMS prerequisites, including education and clinical experience requirements.
  • 3. Choose between the Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) credential.
